Buy the Rights

Meet Jimmy. He's a regular guy, for the most part. Except that he's a vampire. One day, he's going downstairs to get a glass of milk, when suddenly his kitchen appliances start to come alive! Picture it on the big screen: the glowing red eyes of the fridge, the menacing vampire fangs, the epic battles that will ensue. Hollywood's next big musical comedy, starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya: "Midnight Snack."

Are you convinced yet? How about 20 million dollars convinced?

That's just one example of the entertaining and almost always ridiculous movie pitches spurred by the prompt cards of "Buy the Rights." As aspiring Hollywood directors, your task is to convince each round's producer that your movie idea has the best potential. In return, they have $20 million to grant the directors of the most promising pitches, split however they choose. Would you succeed in the film industry? Now is your chance to find out!

You can craft your pitch however you want, but you aren't given complete creative freedom. The media has to match the market, after all. Each round, one person is the producer, and everyone else has to pick cards for their movie's genre, hero descriptor, hero, and plot. Sometimes, players will find eerily fitting cards to craft a beautiful, cohesive pitch and instantly win the producer's heart. Most times, the card combinations will form wacky and absolutely ridiculous pitches, which somehow still manage to win the producer's heart. (Hint: Drop an actor name that the producer would like!)

Fun family party game, exciting storytelling, communication between generations, imagination and inspiration. Play it!
